As a fan of the Atlantic Monthly, I found the below article quite interesting. Thoughts?
When unemployment fell to 8.6 percent last month, its lowest rate in two-and-a-half years, some newspapers hailed the number as a sure sign that the recovery is back on track. But when you dig into the numbers behind the numbers, a darker picture comes into focus. It’s not just that jobs are growing. It’s that the labor force is shrinking.

I run a company that is largely seasonal. We needed employees all summer long and couldn’t find enough to fill the openings. About 1/3 of the employees that we kept after the season have either requested to be laid off, or simply quit and attempted to file for unemployment. They would rather have more free time and still make some money through unemployment, than work and make more. We desperately need to change the culture in this country.

Thanks for sharing. That is one of the more frustrating things with the American culture as far too many individuals have a false sense of entitlement today and just expect to have things handed to them on a silver platter. I believe it starts with the youth. I am about 15-18 years older than my cousins and just witnessing how things have changed in the school system since I was a child is mind boggling. The lack of discipline in the schools does nothing but perpetuate the aforementioned issues. Something needs to change soon so that the economy doesn’t continue to suffer.
